I enjoy turning complex law into something practical, being part of the guard rail at the top of the cliff rather than the ambulance at the bottom.
Originally from South Auckland, now firmly a Westie, Tariqa studied law at the University of Auckland, graduating with an LLB (Hons). Before moving into law, she spent 15 years working across a wide range of roles and industries, including electricity, media, retail, food service, and market research. That breadth of experience has shaped her practical, real-world approach to legal work.
Before joining ComplyWith, Tariqa worked as a senior solicitor at a national full-service law firm, with experience spanning commercial practice, in-house secondment work, and employment law. She also spent time working in-house at a media company, building a strong foundation in both private practice and commercial environments.
At ComplyWith, Tariqa creates legal compliance content, turning legislative change into clear, practical obligations for customers. Her days are spent reading law changes, working through what they mean in practice, and writing content that helps organisations understand what they need to do. She enjoys seeing the real-world impact of that work and helping customers get their compliance right.
Outside of work, Tariqa keeps her hands busy with knitting, a hobby since childhood that she uses to unwind while staying productive. She enjoys quiz shows with her family, where things can get mildly competitive, and has a well-established habit of borrowing library books and returning them unread. She also has a soft spot for Instagram reels with little relevance to her life, particularly long, involved curly hair routines she has no use for.
When she’s not working, Tariqa’s likely knitting, watching TV with the kids, or keeping her local library well supported.
