Axe slinger
I love working in a small team where I get to wear many hats and tackle a wide range of problems.
Born in the UK and raised in Scotland until age 9, Haydn moved to New Zealand with his family and has lived in Wellington ever since. He holds a bachelor’s degree in biomedical science (majoring in genetics and pathology) and 2 master’s degrees (in molecular biology and software development) from Victoria University of Wellington.
Before moving into software, Haydn worked in infectious disease research, including during the early days of COVID-19. He later joined OSPRI, where he moved from intern to DevOps and Cloud Engineer, and eventually to Senior Developer.
Now a Senior Backend Engineer at ComplyWith, Haydn designs and builds scalable backend systems, develops new features, fixes bugs, and reviews code. He enjoys the fast-paced delivery cycle, where improvements get to customers quickly, and feedback follows close behind.
Outside work, Haydn channels his creative energy into playing guitar—a passion he’s cultivated for 20 years—and dabbles in bass and drums. He’s a regular at the gym and unwinds with computer games when he needs a break. A keen all-rounder, he’s also enjoyed playing a range of sports, from football and futsal to softball and canoe polo.
On weekends, Haydn swaps his keyboard for a guitar.
