After covid had caused several postponements of ComplyWith Unplugged in 2021 and early 2022, it was fantastic to finally have everyone together at Te Papa

There was a great vibe in the room and people seemed to really enjoy the day. Attendees gave Unplugged an overall rating of 8.9/10 in their feedback – which we were chuffed with.

Much of the success of Unplugged was down to the stellar line-up of speakers, including:

  • Steph Dyhrberg: senior employment lawyer and recognized expert in the prevention and management of workplace sexual harm and bullying, and Wellingtonian of the Year in 2018 for her work in tackling sexual harassment in the legal profession.

Steph compellingly outlined a new paradigm for addressing harassment and bullying, and building a safer, more respectful workplace culture driven by:

    • Leadership and tone from the top
    • Values and behaviours
    • Safe channels and support
    • Sound complaints and investigations processes.

  • Warren Allen: Former CEO of the External Reporting Board of New Zealand and Ernst and Young partner for 30 years, Warren currently chairs the Audit and Risk Committees for a number of significant organisations, including the Office of the Auditor-General, MFAT and 2  large local authorities.

Warren shared his insights and tips on how we can all give better reports to senior management and governance. These insights included the importance of keeping reports as concise as possible and seeking to understand better what your audience really wants to know about.

  • Phil Parkes: CEO of WorkSafe NZ.

Phil gave an engaging and powerful presentation about the importance of improving New Zealand’s poor workplace safety performance and the 4 key focus areas for WorkSafe that all businesses and their leaders need to be paying attention to.
For a more detailed account of Phil’s presentation see the article and videos here

Other highlights of Unplugged ’22 included customers sharing their stories and insights, the ComplyWith Compliance 101 training session, and the workshop on opportunities to improve compliance processes. There were also lots of opportunities for networking and making connections with others from the ComplyWith compliance community.

Of course, it would not have been a true ‘Unplugged’ without some live groovy background tunes, thanks this year to John and Gus.
